Alicona InfiniteFocus | Dimensional accuracy & surface finish measurement

InfiniteFocusG6 is an accurate, fast and universal optical 3D measuring instrument for tolerances in the µm and sub-µm range. Components are measured area-based and with high resolution independent of size, material, geometry, weight and surface finish. A number of proven and new features combine the functionalities of a roughness measuring system (Ra, Rq, Rz/Sa, Sq, Sz) with the characteristics of a coordinate measuring machine. 

InfiniteFocus is ideal for manufacturing. The robust Focus-Variation technology and the vibration-insensitive design ensure high-resolution and repeatable results, even directly next to the machine tool.

Production measurement technology

The optical µCMM in an automated manufacturing cell 

KLEINER Stanztechnik in Pforzheim, Germany, uses the µCMM for highly accurate qualitative measurements in a new automated manufacturing cell. Their clear goal for the future is full automation in the sense of Industry 4.0: "We hand over a blank to the cell, and at the end we receive a completely manufactured tool including a measurement report without any further intervention", says Christian Hamann from KLEINER. 


Cobot increases efficiency in tool wear measurement 

At the Institute for Machine Tools (IfW) of the University of Stuttgart, a cobot relieves employees in the measurement of tool wear. The use of the UR10e from Universal Robots in combination with an optical 3D measuring sensor from Bruker Alicona significantly shortens, simplifies and improves the entire measuring process.

More optical 3D metrology systems to explore at AMB 2022


µCMM, the first purely optical CMM machine, is used to measure extremely tight tolerances in high accuracy. Users combine advantages from tactile coordinate measuring technology and optical surface measuring technology and measure the dimension, position, shape and roughness of components with only one sensor. 
The optical CMM offers high geometric accuracy of several optical 3D measurements in relation to each other, enabling the measurement of small surface details on large components and precisely determining the position of these individual measurements in relation to each other. The spectrum of measurable surfaces includes all common industrial materials and composites such as plastics, PCD, CFRP, ceramics, chrome, silicon. Simple operation is implemented by single-button solutions, automation and ergonomic control elements such as a specially designed controller. Air-bearing axes with linear drive enable wear-free use and highly accurate, fast measurements.

InfiniteFocus SL

InfiniteFocusSL is a cost efficient optical 3D measurement system for easy, fast and traceable measurement of form and finish on micro structured surfaces. Users measure both form and roughness of components with only one system. Measurements are achieved in seconds and features, such as a coaxial laser for quick and easy focusing, further increase usability. With an automation interface, InfiniteFocusSL is also applied for fully automatic measurement in production.



It is a fully automated cutting edge measurement system for quality assurance of drills, millers and other round tools to be applied in production. Specifically, the EdgeMasterX enables 3D measurement of multiple cutting edges. When utilized in combination with a motorized rotation unit, users benefit from the measurement of multiple tool edges, even chamfered edges, in one single measurement run. 

Collaborative Robots

The Cobot systems combine a collaborative 6-axis robot arm and a robust optical 3D measurement sensor and thus deliver traceable and repeatable high-resolution measurements, even in production. They require no prior metrology skills and facilitate handling, programming and executing of measurement series.
